BBC Four online archive

www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/collections

A collection of  programmes from the BBC archives about the British Army, featuring classic documentaries and historic events dating back to the 1950s, is now available to watch on BBC Online’s Archive website. These relate to BBC Four’s forthcoming Army Series which will include programmes on The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and a series on five different regiments.

The army collection is the first to be made available since it was announced that BBC Four Online will become a gateway through which selected television programmes from the BBC archive will be made available in a permanent, online archive relating to the channel’s themed programming. Archival programmes on sculpture, assembled for Red Button access during BBC Four’s Focus on Sculpture series earlier this year, are already available.

A permanently accessible archive of Radio 3 and Radio 4 programmes will also build up on a selected series rather than thematic basis, as is already the case with In Our Time, where the whole back catalogue of the series is available on-demand and each new episode is added. As the new-look BBC Online builds, the currently separate websites for iPlayer, TV channels, programmes and archive will come together into a single environment, that’s easier to explore and enjoy.
