This year the annual Winter Conference of the Institute of Historical Research focuses on the most filmed historical phenomenon of modern times, the Second World War. The conference brings together directors and film historians to discuss new perspectives on how we view, and viewed, the war on screen.

Highlights include:

  • A roundtable discussion featuring John Boorman and Kevin Brownlow
  • The Home Front on Film – A programme of rare footage from the IWM, the Scottish Screen Archive, North West Film Archive and others
  • Speakers include Sue Harper (Portsmouth), Richard Farmer (UCL), Charles Barr (University College Dublin), Mark Glancy (QMUL), Mark Connelly (Kent), Mark Roodhouse (York), David Eldridge (Hull), Jo Fox (Durham), Melanie Williams (UEA)
