Archive Film Screening

As part of the Industrial Revolutionises exhibition at the Harris Museum in Preston there is a special event taking place at the University of Central Lancashire.

Preston on Film with North West Film Archive
Thurs 23 September 7.30 – 9pm
Film specialist Geoff Senior from the North West Film Archive takes a close look at how Preston has appeared on film over the last century.

The films to be shown will feature life in and around the Preston area over the past 100 years. This specially selected compilation of fascinating films includes celebrations of the town’s Guilds of 1902 and 1952, with parades, pageants and an early balloon ascent from Moor Park. Travel on the town’s roads was recorded with everyday street scenes in the 1930’s, as were views around the towns varied industries of the time. Look in on the high days of life in 1955 with the Royal visit to Lancashire by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and at Fulwood’s Civic Sunday of 1956, before travelling with the boys from North End to the 1964 FA Cup Final.  And finally see how the north/south divide was covered with films made by the Central Lancashire Development Corporation in ‘An Old Wives Tale’ from 1972 and by the BBC in part of the 1979 ‘North and South’ series.

This event will take place at the Mitchell & Kenyon Cinema, Foster Building at the University of Central Lancashire. £3, booking essential, please call 01772 905414.
