Highlights this month include a special issue of the European Journal of Cultural studies which explores the international differences between gender cultures by comparing reality television programmes in different countries, examining how the social, political and industrial histories of individual nations has shaped the way in which specific cultures have reacted, resisted or been shaped by ‘globally patriarchal scripts’.

TOTalitarian ARTs: The Visual Arts, Fascism(s) and Mass Society (Cambridge, England: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2017), includes the chapter ‘Mussolini in American Newsreels: Il Duce as Modern Celebrity’ by Pierluigi Erbaggio.

R.S White’s Shakespeare’s Cinema of Love: A Study in Genre and Influence. (Manchester: Manchester University Press, 2016), explores films about love in classic Hollywood cinema, tracing the links between Shakespeare’s comedies of love and screen genres such as screwball comedy, romantic comedy and musicals, as well as exploring themes of mistaken identity, disguise and ‘shrew taming’.
