Visions of Change – the evolution of the British TV documentary

A season of screenings and special events launches today at the BFI Southbank on the evolution of the television documentary with Denis Mitchell: The Poet, introduced by Dr Ieuan Franklin. A number of events will follow, including Patricia Holland on TV journalism and current affairs; Paul Long on Philip Donnellan; John Wyver on arts TV in the 1950s and 1960s; Peter Morley on his career making documentaries for ITV; David Attenborough on natural history programming; and will conclude on 26 November with Tim Boon on science documentaries.

These screenings anticipate the release on 14 December of Visions of Change, a two-volume BFI DVD box-set on television documentaries from the 50s and 60s (to pre-order, click here). There is an article about this by John Wyver in the current issue of Sight and Sound magazine.
