New audiovisual resources from the BUFVC

Each year the BUFVC invests in new developments and resources to encourage and enhance the use of moving image and sound in education.

During the August 2012 – July 2013 membership year these have included:

  • the release of the BUFVC Guidelines for Referencing Moving Image and Sound. The guidelines are designed to encourage best practice in citing any kind of audiovisual item, covering: film; television programmes; radio programmes; audio recordings; DVD extras; clips; trailers; adverts; idents; non-broadcast, amateur and archive material; podcasts; vodcasts; and games
  • over 1 million records added to TRILT (currently over 16 million records in total – June 2013). Plus new features soon to be released include detailed series and episode information, as well as links to on-demand services such as iPlayer, Sky Go and 4oD
  • launching Roundabout – the monthly Technicolor cinemagazine for South and Southeast Asia – containing 605 moving image videos, which are now available to view online. (open to all)
  • new features and more content added to the News on Screen database. Users can now listen to five interviews with newsreel staff, search across 80,000 newsreel production documents using our innovative PDF viewer and/or browse 100+ souvenir programmes via out new Souvenir Programme Map (for exclusive use by UK HEIs & FEIs)
  • plus BoB National now has over 126,000 programmes available to watch online in the UK (that’s more than 7 years worth of programming!).

And coming soon:

  • A new interface, increased functionality and the addition of over 500,000 BBC programmes will be added to BoB National, via the RES-BoB project (released autumn 2013)Channel 4
  • More than 300 items of audiovisual content from the United Press International Television News (UPITN) will be made available exclusively to HEIs and FEIs as part of News on Screen (launched summer 2013)
  • A new searchable database of the weekly Channel 4 press information packs, produced from 1982 to 2002. The packs were innovative in their design and the wealth of information they provided (available Autumn 2013)
