Creative Commons videos

Vimeo, the social networking video hosting hub, has developed a Creative Commons resource for those looking to re-use pre-existing moving image content under the carious CC licences.

From this page users can browse the Creative Commons licensed videos on Vimeo. Learn about what they can and can’t do with other people’s videos on Vimeo to help you share, rework and reuse legally. This collates all the videos on Vimeo that have a Creative Commons license applied to them, enabling members to grant copyright permissions on their videos so others can copy, distribute, edit, remix, and build upon them while giving credit to the original video’s creator.

There are four main types of licence available under CC:

  • Attribution: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work—and derivative works based upon it—but only if they give credit the way you request.
  • Share Alike: You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.
  • Non-Commerical: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work—and derivative works based upon it—but for non-commercial purposes only.
  • No Derivative Works: You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.
